Choose an attribution model

Decide which partner gets the lead when a customer clicks more than one partner's link.

Written by Nick

When a customer clicks links from two different partners before they sign up, the attribution model decides which partner gets the lead.

  • First click: the lead stays with the partner whose link the customer clicked first. This is the default.

  • Last click: an unpaid lead moves to the partner whose link the customer clicked most recently.

  1. Go to Program settings › Tracking.

  2. Under Attribution, next to Attribution model, choose First click or Last click.

Attribution model row on the Tracking page with First click and Last click options

The change saves straight away and applies to every partner who doesn't have a model of their own.

Set a different model for a group

  1. Go to Program settings › Groups and click Edit next to the group.

  2. Under Tracking, payouts and coupon, choose the Attribution model.

  3. Click Save changes.

Leave it on Program default to use the program's model.

Good to know

  • Only unpaid leads move. Once a customer pays, they stay with their partner.

  • Last click needs the tracking script whose address contains /v2/. With an older script, leads stay with the first partner. To get the current script, see Add the tracking script to your site.

  • If you also expire unpaid leads, the days count again from the moment a lead moves to another partner. See Expire unpaid leads.

  • A click only counts within your cookie duration. See How partner links and tracking work.
